Jaymie McCanna

Letter 1

 To Whom It May Concern:

I would like to express my support for Jaymie McCanna as she pursues graduate school options in the Communicative Disorders field. In the fall of 2011. Jaymie was a student in my Human Development and Family Studies Research and Methodology class. Although the class is listed as a 200 level course, it is a very demanding class that helps students understand and apply research methodology. Jaymie demonstrated excellent analytical skills and by the end of the semester was able to fully critique and evaluate research in the Human Development Field. She was a dedicated and responsible student that participated fully in class discussion and small group assignments.

The Research and Methodology course requires that all students write a comprehensive literature review on a topic of their choice. Jaymie enthusiastically chose to discuss “The Social, Emotional, and Educational Effects of Mainstreaming Deaf and Hearing Impaired Children”. Early on in the semester she conveyed to me her passion for the topic and her enthusiasm to learn and understand more. We would have informal conversations on her topic and I saw in her final paper how she readily used the feedback and critique to further her knowledge and become a better writer.

I was impressed with this young woman’s desire to obtain practical application experience. She shared with me some of her intern experience and excitedly spoke of an opportunity she had to attend a research conference in the CMD field. Sadly, too many students in college do the bare minimum amount of work to meet the standards, but with Jaymie you saw a student who prioritized obtaining knowledge and practical application over just simply meeting requirements.

Jaymie has excellent communication skills. Her written work was both clear and concise, and interesting to read. She demonstrated her oral articulateness in class discussions where she would use her text book knowledge and practicum experience to draw well thought out analogies to our lecture.

At a personal level Jaymie is a well disciplined, industrious student with a pleasant personality. She is humble, funny and extremely dedicated. She would be a hard working graduate student that would well represent any University. Her intellectual capacity and her sincere enthusiasm for the subject matter would make her an excellent candidate for graduate study.

If I can be of any further assistance, or provide you with any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Yours Sincerely,

 Julianna Golas
